WHAT ARE SMELLING SALTS?

Smelling salts, or ammonia inhalants are a combination of different compounds, the key one being an ammonia compound. These ingredients are then put either in a capsule or in a bottle, where a reaction occurs that releases ammonia over time, and when you break the capsule or open the bottle, the gas is released.

ARE SMELLING SALTS DANGEROUS?

Despite what you may hear from your mother, people at the gym, or randoms online, smelling salts are actually safe to use when used properly. The amount of ammonia gas that you are being exposed to is negligible, the worst that may happen is irritation of nose or mouth.
